There are some who because of physical handicaps or dependencies or very necessary civilian jobs cannot join the above men. Many have applied for enlistment at one place or another and soon will be added to the list.
In all of this your REUNION COMMITTEE and your Class Officers have been wondering: Shall We Plan For Reunion? Your feelings and your votes are controlling. All reunioning classes will be present the week-end of May 15th. Comment is the 10th. What do you say? Write a card to the Secy, whether you are for or agin' it. In the meantime, your Committee and Officers have decided to plan for a very simple affair with practically no expenses simply a Hanover week-end for those who can make it. Unless we hear to the contrary before March Ist that will be the plan.
Jack Devlin, one of the Vice Chairmen of the Reunion Committee, has been named head of the Nominating Committee. Get in touch with him at 94 Stone Road, Belmont, Mass. Each one should have suggestions for an Executive Committee of 7, one of whom will be Treasurer and one Secy.-Chairman. That Committee appoints the Head Class Agent. It will be advisible to have a Committee of men reasonably sure of not being in the Armed Forces. The manner of voting will be decided upon later.
There is much news. Dr. John Milne and Jean McDuff of Providence and Wheaton Coll. will be married about Feb. 7th. John's at Mary Hitchcock. Les "Barrel" Barrett is engaged to Cecelia Jane Holt of State Teachers' Coll., Framingham. Henry Cochrane and Isabel Ann Blackwell of Plainfield, N. J. and the Hartridge Sch. are engaged. Dr. "Double Barrel" Bullen, lovingly called by his friends "Phluether," will marry Sarah Hyatt of Scarsdale and the Froebel League, N. Y. Bull internes at Kings County. Carl Ray's new home address is 4400 North Pershing Drive, Arlington, Va. Get in touch with him there if you have any questions about Reunion.
Ever since Xmas our courageous TREASURER has been explaining that "Send Your Slug To Rug" stuff, but when they inquire he nails 'em. If a few more of you fellows send yours in we'll have an up-to-date kitty. He sent a batch of letters out here. Marsh Roper's came from Hampden, Mass. Jerry Low's from the OPM. Hal Putnam of the Boston Globe points out that Wendy Martha was 3 months old in Dec. and all of 161/2 lbs., a ringer for her beautiful mother. You see, you poor God-fathers to the fawns, you better get hitched. Harvey Tull's been married for some time to Emily Pribe, now there's a junior born in August. Harvey's with Crown Cork & Seal Cos. selling out of Merion Park, Pa. Dick Ernest and wife and Corb Moister (Army Med. Lt. nearby?) have been seen. Charlie Sine from up in Alberta writes: "Give my best to any of the fellows, and best of luck to yourself. If I get to the Japs before you do I'll string one up for you." Ken Stearns and some gent with an unreadable signature are at St. Lukes Hosp., N. Y. C. Jack Kenny resigned his teaching position in Melrose and has applied for the Naval Res. Air Force. Fred and Esther Mayo sent their dues in from Boston. Fred is merely "Pop" around the house. Janet will be one year Sept. 27, 1942. George Andrews reports Art Ekirch and bride finishing up the Ph.D. at Columbia, and Myron Wright a Capt. in the Med. Corp., concluding: "The legends about the virtues of a place where you can raise your own food, live under your own roof are not without foundation."
Bill Webster writes: "I'm with Amer. Airlines in Boston. I've been rejected by the Navy for the supply corps and by the army for the draft on account of my eyes. With things popping in the Pacific I don't imagine that either of them will be so coy about accepting me now." Pat Patterson is in the Statler office of the Amer. Airlines and is deemed "Company humorist." Conny Shuck is head of the English Dept. at Hun Sch., Princeton, N. J. Ray Bauer's fine son, Eugene Hall Bauer, arrived Nov. 4th—no poundage given. Art Sprague is enlisting in the Q.M. Corps. Dick Cooper is chairman of the Rep. party in Rochester, N. H. Bill Ward had a serious auto accident several months back and is just now recovering. He's out in Miner, Mont. Continued Next Month!
'37 FIVE YEARS AGO THIS MONTH by PHIL WHITE 432 Wheeler Hall
Dear Mother and Dad,
Gee, it sure was a swell Carnival. It was our last one but the best yet. Just imagine, there were 1200 girls in town 1200 wow! I didn't know there were so many. We were on the go all the time dances, plays, ski meets and everything from the time the specials got in Friday noon until Sunday afternoon. I had an awful time meeting Marge at the station there was such a jam, but we finally managed to get some lunch and got out to Occom Pond to watch the skating races.
Things started off well with Hal Putnam and the other members of the team taking most of the places. Then we watched the finish of the crosscounry in which the Chivers boys placed high to give us the win there. Then we hurried down to the gym to see the swimming meet. Frank Young, who is captain, won several events. We went to the "Chocolate Soldier" after a swell "Outdoor Evening" and then danced at the house until practically dawn—why do we do such a thing, anyway? I'm still tired.
Sat. a.m. we skied out to Balch Hill and watched the slalom races—you ought to see the way Dick Durrance comes down that course. Warren Chivers and Ted Hunter were right with him and we captured most of the places in that event. We managed to get to a couple of classes in the morning and then spent the afternoon getting to the ski-jump, watching the jumping, and getting back to town again. That night we first went to the hockey game, where the quartet of Otis, Bennett, Barrett, and Costello played a wonderful game. Then we saw the basketball game—Hal Parachini and Ab Dingle played a fine game. After the game we didn't know whether to go to the movies or back to the house for dancing, so we did both. You can see what a hectic week-end it was; but I would do it all over again if I had the chance.
Of course a large part of the credit for the success of the whole Carnival goes to the Carnival Committee, most of them classmates: Moe Cartwright, Ike Collins, Hart Beardsley, Will Brown, Bill Timbers, Bill Rotch, Ripsom and Dick McCornack.
I've been out skiing a couple of times but we still need more snow to be really good. With all the extra expenses of Carnival I am kind of flat right now so if you could send me $5.00 extra this month I sure would appreciate it.
Love to all, Jack.
