Military information: Bob Newman is a private in the Coast Artillery, at the Replacement Training Center, Fort Eustis, Va Haven't heard of much skiing being done nowadays by us boys, but Yallalee envies us it anyway—from the Public Relations office at Fort Jackson, S. C It's a bit unfair, but we can't resist quoting a small part of Art Leonard's Oct. 1941 letter: "Seems like I'm always too lucky. My spot in the army is just another country club. Haven't handled a gun, marched a mile, slept out, used a mess kit or dirtied my hands in 8 months. Just a succession of week-ends at the beach, picnics, Carolina debbies (shades of Hulsart) (even that's not fair now, we guess—Ed.) and lots of fun. Will be sorry to leave." Art enclosed a few pictures "to show how rigorous and unpleasant this army life is. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that Togo and Tojo don't do anything rash for a while." The photos are the kind you dream about, probably the kind Leonard is dreaming about now instead of seeing in the flesh.
