No fancy quotes this month, but right to Tom Adams, who has told me that our class has come up with $155,000 for the Alumni Fund this year. That's well beyond our goal of $146,000. JohnMcclintock probably gave you all the details, and the exact amount, in his recent newsletter. Congratulations, Tom Adams and all your excellent assistants certainly a job well done. Tom mentioned this is only the 11th time in 45 years that we have reached our goal. Thank you all, you great givers.
Remember our mini-reunion dates are October 16-18. That weekend features Dartmouth Night and the Yale game. Let's have a good turnout. I, for one, am looking forward to it since I've been away from Hanover for two years. Mcclintock planned to give further information in the newsletter, which you should have received in August.
Bert Ibelle is retired and now in Old Lyme, Conn. Bert was clinical director of the psychiatric unit at Hartford Hospital and also clinical professor of psychiatry at Connecticut University Medical School. He still has a private practice but spends most of his time doing "square-foot gardening." I haven't the foggiest notion what square-foot gardening is, but one can hope that an eminent psychologist knows the whole nine yards of it.
Edward Lane-Reticker writes that he is teaching banking law at both Boston University and the University of Connecticut. In addition he is associated "of counsel" with a law firm. "Of counsel," you ask? Oh, that's sort of like senior-retired status. Ed spent many years in the banking business, and that's a long way from teaching Latin and English in Llawaii, which he did for a couple of years way back when.
Eugene Bronstein is now in his 18 th year teaching at Boston College. I assume he teaches business since he attended Harvard Business School and was in business for many years.
Harold Frank became chairman of Jordan Marsh a while back. I'm not sure how current this information is because the College just sent me the information, but from a news release in 1991. Harold was also assuming the duties of president. Perhaps Harold can advise us his present status. Renold Thompson retired as president and CEO of Oglebay Norton Cos. (Cleveland). He was then named vice chairman of the board. Harlan Brumsted has retired at Cornell University after an association that goes back to 1948. We have written before of the many honors he received in the conservation field. Now a well-deserved retirement. Good for you, Harlan.
I have learned this week of the passing of more of our classmates: Carl Bauer on June 3 and William Helmbold on June 5. We extend our deepest sympathy to their families.
