Charles H. Stevens Jr. '20, the most recent wearer-of-the-green to be made an ambassador o£ inter-American good will, has been granted a leave of absence from his post as Professor of Spanish at Rutgers University to join the United States embassy in Mexico City as secretary of cultural relations.
Professor Stevens, after spending the year 1924-25 at the University of Madrid, picked up a few trophies in the Romance languages in the form of an M.A. from Middlebury College in 1927 and a Ph.D. from New York University in 1938. He has contributed to publications in the field of Spanish classical drama, is chairman of the advisory committee for Portuguese studies of the Modern Language Association, and is a member of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish.
