In an interview recently, Director of Athletics William H. McCarter '19 outlined in general terms the coming summer semester sports program. "While things are not definitely arranged as yet, we expect to compete in baseball, tennis, golf, and possibly lacrosse, with such intercollegiate or outside competition as is available.
"Sometime in the near future we will be able definitely to announce our program. Until then it's mainly a matter of negotiation with other colleges running summer terms."
As the summer program is now visualized, it will run from June 1 to. the middle of August, with some modification of this plan probable for conformity with other schools' programs. If enough college competition cannot be scheduled, it is hoped, that service contests will be on the slate.
With the majority of eastern colleges planning the same sort of program—only Yale thus far has shown signs of retrenchment—the matter of scheduling should not be too difficult.
In addition to the certainties of competition in baseball, tennis and golf and the possibility of lacrosse contests, activity will continue in one form or another, in all of Dartmouth's usual spring sports, Mr. McCarter said.
The swimming pool will remain open throughout the summer, and activity therein will also be confined to intramural scale. The Dartmouth Corinthian Yacht Club will schedule intercollegiate and inter-club dinghy races throughout the summer; and the crew is hopeful of finding some competition in the summer to make up for its curtailed spring program.
