First I must tell you about the Secretaries Meeting in May. The Davises and Martins were there for the entire week. The rest of us came up on Thursday or Friday—Bob Stecher to attend the Alumni "Council Meetings; Ray Adams representing the Springfield, Vt. Ass'n; and Tom Whelen to officiate at the baseball game. Resident in Hanover and looking after our comforts and pleasures were John Williams, Adele Ives ('19s official representative on the Staff at the Inn), McCarter, Del Ames, Norton, and Larmon (news of his appointment as New Hampshire Director of OPA came out that week-end).

Bob Jackson was elected Vice Pres. in charge of Sales and Advertising of CocaCola Bottling Co. of N. Y. James Murray, Pres. of the company, gave a dinner in his honor. Guests from our Class were Drane, Cooper and Bresnahan. Bob's picture appears in this column.

Bunny and Madeleine Collins have announced the engagement of their daughter, Madeleine, to George A. Blair Jr., Boston University College of Business Admin. 1941. George enlisted in the Army shortly after the announcement so that plans for a wedding are necessarily uncertain. Madeleine and her twin sister Elizabeth graduated from Colby Junior College in 1941.

T. Kingsbury has been in the brokerage business since 1926, going back in 1932 to Keene, N. H., his home town. His son, Thayer Jr., 6' 2", finished Clark School this year and plans to go to Dartmouth.

Charlie Mills reports the following: "Upon college graduation, I had a most thrilling 3 years at Robert College, Constantinople (now Istanbul!) which enabled me to see much of Europe as well as something of Egypt, Palestine and Syria. Then after brief teaching experiences in Grand Rapids, Mich, and New Haven, Conn., and the acquisition of an M. A. at Columbia, I became a cog in the educational machine of Cleveland. So far have taught at only one school—John Adams High School. I tell my Cornell '25 wife how to run the home the bank says we own, and how to bring up my 12-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son."

Donald Studholme operates a retail store selling men's clothing, furnishings and hats in Plattsburg, N. Y. His older child, Don Jr., aged 16, is finishing his sophomore year in High School and has been the regular organist in Plattsburg's largest Protestant Church since last Sept. His daughter Jean finished Junior High this Spring. Don himself is Sec.-Treas. of Plattsburg Men's Glee Club and he has long been connected with Plattsburg Little Theatre, sometimes as Treas., sometimes as the ticket office, or as a handy man in the business dep't, and last season in the construction and painting dep't.

In August 1940 Bob Proctor went to the War Dep't as a volunteer to help temporarily in the moving of the early aircraft program and expansion of aircraft plants, staying on 3 months. As of May 1, 1942 he resigned as member of the firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart, Boston, and went directly to work for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. Bob has acted as counsel for this firm for a number of years.

Bill Hooven was elected Vice Pres. of Palisades Trust & Guaranty Co., Englewood, N. J.

Eddie Seward sent me a fine letter in April from which I quote:

"I have a nice home in San Marino, a small town about 13 miles from Los Angeles. Up until 4 years ago, when we built our home, which has Redwood everywhere it can be used, I spent a great deal of my spare time playing golf with a handicap that got down to 9 and during which time I shot four holes in one. Since then I have quit golf to become an amateur gardener, specializing in Camellias. Have accumulated 27 varieties, of which my prides and joys (when in bloom) are the Prince Albert and the Lady Vansittart. As for business, I have the best Redwood account here, selling only the best lumber yards located in the Southern Calif, territory from San Diego to Santa Barbara, about 225 miles. Have covered this territory for the same company for 18 years. I see 'Ro.llie' Foss, Murray Hawkins and Ralph Kilpatrick occa- sionally and sometimes Freddy McCrea when I am in San Francisco."

Forest (Pete) Pitman is Vice Pres. of George McQuesten Lumber Co. Boston. His daughter Joyce, 16, plans to enter Walnut Hill School next year and Smith College the following year.

Here are a few paragraphs taken out of a letter from Hal Avery:

"I live in Burlington, Vt. and am General Agent for State Mutual Life Assurance Co. of Worcester, Mass. and cover the whole State. Helen and I have 2 children—Jean, 14, a sophomore in High School and Hal Jr., 11. There are two other '19rs in Burlington and they treat me roughly. Nelson Brown is with Metropolitan Life and takes my business. Tod Townsend, the outstanding kidney specialist and famous dry fly fisherman, takes all the trout."

Henry Clay sent me this message:

"I am not in service but am in the Defense Council—a Florida State organization that got going before OCD did, and for the same purpose. We are very war-conscious here, with a huge navy air training field and an air corps officers' training school, a blimp base, and soldiers and sailors all over the place. I have had a few torpedoed sailors here in the hospital—Mexican and Brazilian. Lots of doctors from my staff are joining up and we are going to be mighty short-handed before long."

The July ist issue of N. Y. Herald Tribune carried a picture with this caption: "Capt. Edw. W. Fiske of Socony-Vacuum Oil Co. decorates Tanker Seaman John J. Kelly, of Hillside, N. J., twice torpedoed and once seriously burned, with the Maritime Eagle, at a luncheon at the Hotel Pennsylvania yesterday."
