THE AWARD OF SEVEN undergraduate scholarships of $500 each was announced by President Hopkins at the beginning of the present summer term. A Morrill Allen Gallagher Scholarship, the award for all-round excellence, was given to John A. Koslowski '43 of Manchester, Mass. Two Justin H. Smith Fund Scholarships were awarded to William M. Jones •43 of Highland Park, 111., and Richard V. Wilson '44 of Fort Thomas, Ky.; and four Verson Woodman Gooch Scholarships to Bradley E. Copeland '43 of Pleasantville, N. Y.; Charles M. Donovan '43 of Lawrence, Mass.; Paul H. Randall 43 Bos ton; and Shih-yueh Wang '44 of Shanghai, China.

Koslowski is captain of the varsity baseball team, plays football and hockey, is president of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and a member of Sphinx. Jones is advertising manager of Jack-o-Lantern, vice-president of Delta Upsilon fraternity, and a member of the Gile dormitory committee. He is majoring in actuarial mathematics. Wilson is taking a medical course and is the brother of Warner C. Wilson '42.

Copeland, a Verson Woodman Gooch Scholarship winner, is also preparing for a medical career. He is a letterman in soccer, plays basketball, and is a member of Sigma Chi. Donovan, who has been in charge of the College magazine agency during the past year, has been out for track and the Glee Club. Randall is an English major while Wang transferred to Dartmouth this semester from Detroit College of Law and is also an English major. He attended the Soochow University Law School from 1937 to 1941 and did his preparatory school work at Kuo-Kwung Middle School in his home city of Shanghai.

PRIZE FRESHMANHoward D. Brundage '45 of East Orajige,N. J., was named by Dean Strong this yearas the winner of the William S. ChurchillPrize, annually awarded to the outstand-ing member of the freshman class. In addi-tion to being a 3.8 student he won hisnumerals in track, is a member of the exec-utive committee of his class, has taken partin Players' productions, and zuas recentlypledged to Delta Kappa Epsilon. He en-tered Dartmouth from the Clifford ]. ScottHigh School in East Orange. The prize. was$lOO worth of books of his own choice.
