Far be it from me to plug any product or service in these columns, but something of such unusual interest has been brought to my attention that I must give it some notice. David F. Chapman has written A Challenge to Youth, which is a biography of Bob Michelet. The book is on sale at Mercersburg Academy Store, Mercersburg, Pa. The price is $2.

Before we get on with the news, I'd like to give some emphasis to the notice you received a short while ago in reference to class dues. Yes, they've been upped a teensy-weensy bit for several reasons. Unfortunately, lots of guys are in such faraway ports that they won't have a chance to contribute; the rest of us will have to dig a little deeper so that we won't have to give up the 100 per cent plan on the ALUMNI MAGAZINE or drop the newsletter. If, by some chance, a surplus develops over and above these expenses, we hope to form a kitty which will be the nucleus of our Twenty-Fifth Reunion Gift. You'll hear more about this later, but if anyone is in a spot where he feels he can kick in even more than the regular dues, make the check as big as you like, so we can get the Fund rolling.

We've got so much news this month that it's running out my ears. Keep it coming 'cause I'm beginning to have nightmares about the monthly deadline rolling around and me with nothing but a couple of worn-out stories to recite.

Word comes of the marriage of Miss Veralyn Jamele to John Cameron Day in New York City on July 5. Also in the Cupid Department we find that Miss Mildred Watkins was wed to Lt. George Hayden Goss on June 1$ in Washington. Incidentally, the "Lieutenant" that Goss is sporting these days comes from the Marine Corps. This leads us right into some more military information which includes the entrance of Nick Xanthaky into the Army and the commissioning of Win Watts as a captain in the Medical Corps. With Uncle Sam taking such a strong interest in the men of '34 (or vice versa), I find it mighty tough to keep up with who is in what branch of the service, how many stripes they wear, what camp they have passed through most recently, and how they like their teachers. So if I duplicate information that is common knowledge and have news that is two ranks and six posts out of date, someone will have to call me down. Bill Knibbs has made himself very much at home at the Navy Air Station at Quonset Point, R. 1., since he reports that Bill Reush, Steve Woodbury, and Hank Bryan are all there with him, and right next door at a specialist school are Jim Darling and Stu Barber. The Navy has also taken hold of Bill Baird, and is trying to make officer material of him-down in Hollywood, Florida. Ralph Brabbee is sporting lieutenant bars and seems to be one of those lucky enoueh to summer in the East and spend the winter in Florida. At least he's had a swell summer at Camp Ritchie, Md., and is now looking forward to a transfer. Don Moir is now a lieutenant in the Air Corps and is stationed at present at a point in the South Pacific where lots is going on. (That can't possibly be divulging a military secret 'cause lots seems to be going on everywhere in the South Pacific these days.)

As a breathing spell in our Army news, we find that '34 has been doing its part in keeping the birthrate rising. Shirley and Ray announced the arrival of Elizabeth Sharon Hulsart sometime in July. And right behind them, Richard William Morton was born to Roald and Dotty on August 8. Phil and Mark Eckles-met their third child, Elizabeth Cole Eckles, on August l. For the benefit of those of you who haven't been able to keep up with Phil—the family now stands, Katherine 5, John 3, and Elizabeth 1/4.

Phil also passes on word that John Torinus is better known these days as Maj. Torinus and has been spending most of his time teaching OCS lads at Ft. Benning. However, at last writing, a somewhat more active assignment seemed to be in store for him. A "V"-mail letter from "Peanut" Davies indicates that most people call him Capt. Davies these days, as he is the commanding officer of a headquarters squadron in the Army Air Corps.

Ted Thompson is now sporting the title of Executive Manager of NBC's Guest Relations Department, after spending only a few months in the capacity of an assistant to this same job. Except for a two-year period, Ted has been with NBC since graduation.

Recent changes in address show that Brik Banks is now located in Wilmington, Calif.; Joe Bender is back in Brooklyn; and Bob Corwin has taken up residence in Detroit, though I don't know whether as a civilian or a soldier. Bernie Cushman is still with the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, but has moved his home over into Arlington. John Foley is still helping the light and power industry keep their books straight, though he has changed affiliation to the Salem Electric Light Co. of Salem, Mass. (I wish he'd come down here and see what they're doing wrong in Louisville. I can't be using that much juice!) Jack Gilbert is still with Lumbermen's Casualty Co., but has been transferred to Amherst, Mass. And pardon me for overlooking it in the military department, but Merrill Heald has left U. S.. Steel for U. S. Army, in the capacity of a lieutenant and has taken up residence in Harrisburg, Penn.

Karl Maas is now in Washington, but I don't know whether it's with the Government or not. Dana Redington is now living in Manchester, and Jim Cowan is at present enrollment manager for the Mass. Blue Cross.

I certainly keep my notes in lousy shape, for now turn up with still more Army and Navy stuff. Paul Magnuson has been promoted to the rank of captain in the Medics. Also in the Medical Corps, Sunny Mills has been given an overseas address. Since last hearing from him, Bill Rench has joined the Navy and is a lieutenant. Paul Willgeroth is in the Army as a lieutenant.

That brings me to the bottom of the pile, so all I have to do now is wait for the postman to bring in more letters by the truck-load; I hope, I hope, I hope. ....
