GIFTS TO DARTMOUTH COLLEGE during the fiscal year 1942-43 totaled $451,578.09, it was disclosed last month by Treasurer Halsey C. Edgerton '06 in the College's annual financial report. The greater part of this figure came from the record-breaking 1943 Alumni Fund which produced a net sum of $231,470.02.

Gifts for endowment amounted to $145,- 835.57, while those for current use totaled $305,742.52. Among the former the largest were the John Sanborn Conner Fund of $44,656.46, an additional $21,44984 for the, William N. Cohen Fund, and an additional $19,264.17 for the Class of 1918 Memorial Fund. Other gifts to endowment included $7,753.85 added to the Robert H. Chase Fund, and $5,000 establishing the Mary H. Hersey Fund.

Among the gifts for current use, the largest, outside of the Alumni Fund, were $20,000 from the Rockefeller Foundation for research at the Dartmouth Eye Institute, and $20,138.89 from the Carnegie Foundation for retiring allowances. The sum of $12,000 was received from the Benjamin A. Kimball Trust and $8,050.00 from an anonymous donor as interest on a pledged gift. Other contributions for Eye Institute work were $2,000 from the Snyder Ophthalmalic Foundation, $2,000 from the Lindsay Trust Fund, and $l,OOO from the Cogswell Trust Fund.

Scholarship, funds included $9OO from the Chicago Alumni Association and $750 from the Dartmouth Club of Cleveland, as well as smaller gifts from the Dartmouth Club of New Jersey, the Dartmouth Christian Union, and Pi Lambda Phi. The Dartmouth Women's Club of Boston contributed $5OO as a student aid fund, and for the same purpose other sums were received from Green Key and from alumni clubs and associations of Dayton, Bridgeport, Hartford, Western Pennsylvania, Manchester, Rhode Island, and Wellesley, Mass.
