IN ITS FIRST full session since last May, the Dartmouth Board of Trustees gathered in Boston on November is for its regular fall meeting. A short docket of business was devoted mainly to financial matters, including the budget for the current fiscal year and the Treasurer's report for 1942-43. Degrees were awarded to recent graduates and a number of new faculty appointments were approved (both reported in this section) and standing committees of the Trustees for 1943-44 were named by President Hopkins.
Among the faculty matters taken up, the Board granted leave of asbence to Prof. Elliott A. White 'l2 of the English Department for the balance of the academic year 1943-44. Leaves granted earlier to Profs. Francis E. Merrill '26 and John V. Neale for the full year were cancelled to permit them to resume teaching this term, and the resignation of Dr. Arthur Linksz as Instructor in Ophthalmology with the Eye Institute was accepted as of October 1.
Standing committees of the Board for the current year were announced by President Hopkins as follows:
Executive Committee—John R. McLane 'O7, chairman; The President: Edward S. French 'O6, and Dr. John F. Gile 'l6.
Committee on Degrees—Dr. Arthur H. Ruggles 'O2, chairman; The President; Mr. McLane; Dudley W. Orr '29; and Nelson A. Rockefeller 'go.
Committee on Investments—Victor M. Cutter 'O3, chairman; The President; William W. Grant 'O3; Mr. French; William J. Minsch 'O7, and Harvey P. Hood 2nd 'lB.
All members of the Board were present, except Mr. Grant and Mr. Rockefeller.
