A few stray bits of news this month keep the record from being a total loss, but we'll put the dearth of news down to the fact that all our classmates are not only trying to figure out their income taxes, but more to the point, trying to dope out how to pay them—unless before the deadline our own Beards Ruml's famous plan goes into effect and we're all in the clear for 1942.
However, we note with much pleasure that Ralph Brown has stepped up to vice president and general counsel for the New York Telephone Company; Leon Aronowitz, for many years Deputy Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in New York, has resigned to enter the private practice of law in Albany with his brother Sam '11 and will specialize in tax matters; Walt Wanger is the author of "Hollywood and the Intellectuals" in the Saturday Review ofLiterature for December 5; and Bud Doe reports that apple picking up country was successful enough this fall to enable him to send Chan Foster his class dues right on the nose.
And there you have it—perhaps no news is good news, but we do like to have a sheaf of letters to record as we take the editorial typewriter in hand the 7th or Bth of each month for the class notes.
There are so many of the boys we never hear from! We'd like just a note—even a post card would be welcome in these busy times. In fact we got thinking about the class in a reminiscent mood on New Year's Eve, wondering what 1943 would bring forth for all of us—our 30th Reunion only two years away—and with the radio turned on to hear the New Year come in for the Eastern time zone as typified by the crowd in Times Square, we thought of. .. .
Eben, Walt, Chan, String, Shrimp, Dale, George, Red, Bill, Herb, Jim, Jonny, Art, Chan, Phil, Dave, Dolph, Sherm, Leo, George, Jack, Fred, Joe, Farmer, Johnny, Cale, Casey, Ed, Al; Norm, Sid, Bush, Bob, Speed, Erl, Harry, Kike, Saint, Walt, Carl, Ed, Bob, Fish, Howie, Hank, Willis, Bud, Pat, Art, Hal, Russ, Bunny, Phil, Tom, Greg, Bob, Walt, Earl, Bill, Pete, Lee, Ken, Buster, Russ, Waldo, Al, Cecil, Chink, Harry, Stace, Gil, Russ, Bill, Ray, Paul, Norvie, Harp, Ed, Elliot, Augie, Hap, Howie, Murray, Claf, Dick, Leon, Sully, Max, Ernie, Sid, Ray, Phil, Bill, Ev, Jack, Fletch, Warren, Gov, Stick, Paul, Gerald, Jack, Tom, Jack, Hal, Charlie, Roy, Herb, Gus, Bill, Howie, Dick, Laf, Leon, Dud, Trace, Dex, Speed, Ed, Ralph, Mac, George, Bob, Harold, Bill, Gene, Pop, Pete, Fred, Dick, Chuck, Win, Les, George, Wy, Milt, Doodles, Jack, Phil, Russ, Kell, Milt, Rooney, Beards, Leon, Opie, Ken, Carl, Dick, Turk, Don, Deke, Red, Al, Phil, Kent, Art, Cy, Pop, Hal, Bob, Thornt, Otes, Freddy, Adam, Chuck, Stan, Fred, Hal, Charlie, Jack, Paul and Herb
And as the hour passed quickly, as pleasant hours do, before we knew it, came the striking of i o'clock and the strains of "Auld Lang Syne" floated out as the Central time zone blared its welcome to the New Year, and our thoughts turned to Al, Les, Hugh, Mai, Hank, Ed, George, Hal, King, Deane, Nove, Pen, Art, Bags, Ed, Dole, George, Sim, Shorty, Si, Don, Zeke, Don, George, Voyle, Drex, Dave, Jack, Musty
Yes, another hour had passed, and from a Denver station came a welcome to the Mountain zone New Year as our clock said 2:00 A.M the list now was getting shorter, but our thoughts of them no less, as we wondered what 1943 has for Stu, Pfcte, Larry, Frank, Jerry and John
We'll confess we were a bit sleepy by now, but a poke at the fireplace brought a rejuvenated blaze to the embers fading out like the old year, and the final greeting of the Pacific New Year at our 3:00 A.M. roused us to a mental greeting to Tommy, Howie, Warren, Art, Walt, Joe, Bill, Arch, Dick, Ralph, Al, Mac, Jim, Mac, Ralph and Chuck.
Abroad. .. .somewhere... .the hour we don't recall... .there was a January 1 for Jiggs Donahue. .. .may 1943 be his year of liberation as '42 was for Russ Durgin; Andy Andrus.... is he still in Europe?.... Art Boggs in India?.... Bernie O'Day in the Canal Zone.... and last, but by no means least. .. .our first and only general, Howie Fuller, somewhere down there, doing that for us.
Happy New Year to all—and Victory!
