Secretaries of alumni clubs and associations have been notified that certain positions on the Alumni Council will become vacant in June. According to constitutional provisions the nominations for these places will be made by alumni clubs in the seven council districts of the country, but there is also a means of submitting nominations from any group of one hundred or more alumni. This latter possibility is explained below.
After nominations are received by the secretary of the Alumni Association in Hanover, mail ballots for election will be sent to all graduates of the College where more than one nominee is running for a Council vacancy.
The new Southwestern District (VI), which was established last year, will have its first vacancy this spring. The situation in each of the seven Council Districts of the country in respect to election of new members or eligibility of present members for reelection follows. The length of term in each case is two years for Councilors chosen by Districts, and now limited to two successive terms of two years each.
In the New England States District Dr. Thomas A. Foster '10 of Portland completes his second term of office and is therefore not eligible for reelection. Robert P. Booth '22 of Manchester, N. H., completes his first term and is therefore eligible for reelection.
In the Middle Atlantic States District Leslie W. Snow '12 of New York City completes his first term of office and is therefore eligible for reelection. Philip H. Chase '07 of Philadelphia completes his first term and is also eligible for reelection.
In the Central States District Lt. William R. Abbott Jr. '27, USNR, of Chicago, completes his second term of office and is therefore not eligible for reelection.
In the Middlewestern States District Henry E. Atwood '13 of Minneapolis completes his first term of office and is therefore eligible for reelection. Voyle D. Rector '15 of Omaha completes his first term of office and is also eligible for reelection.
In the Southern States District A. Pollack Boyd '22 of Chattanooga completes his second term of office and is therefore not eligible for reelection. Edward Stafford '11 of Washington completes his first term of office and is eligible for reelection.
In the Southwestern States District John W. Bates '10 of Tulsa completes his first term of office and is therefore eligible for reelection.
In the Western States District Lt. Walter D. Douglas 2nd '31, USNR, of Los Angeles completes his first term of office and is therefore eligible for reelection.
METHOD OF NOMINATION
According to Article V, Section 3, of the Alumni Council constitution, nominations beyond those submitted by approved alumni clubs may be made as follows:
The Secretary of the General Association of Alumni shall publish in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE not later than the February issue a statement of the vacancies, if any, tobe filled the ensuing July 1. In additionto the method of making nominationsthrough local alumni clubs and associations as explained above, it will be possiblefor any group of 100 alumni qualified tovote in the Alumni Council election ofthat year to petition the Secretary in favorof a properly qualified nominee, the petition to carry the endorsement of the candidate whose name will then appear on theelection ballot of that district. Such nominations must be received by the Secretaryof the General Association not later thanApril 10.
