Two bequests totaling more than $45,000 have been made to Dartmouth College recently. The larger of these, reported by newspapers to be in excess of $40,000, has been left to the College by Mrs. Melusina H. Varick, whose will was probated at Santa Barbara, Calif., on December 4. The other of $5,000 was received last month from the estate of Mary H. Hersey of Hingham, Mass., daughter of Dr. Henry Gibson, Med. 1838.
The bequest from Mrs. Varick was made as a memorial to her son, Remsen Varick '06, and is to be used to establish a fund "for worthy Protestant students who are already working to earn part of their expenses at college and who are residents of New Hampshire."
The Mary H. Hersey Fund will be administered as a scholarship fund for the benefit of deserving students who are studying French.
