March 1944 EDWIN A. BOCK, WILLIAM T. MAECK

These notes are somewhat brief this month due to another shift in position and a subsequent postal lag. However, to get to cases, from somewhere in the South Pacific (where his fascinating address is Ens. Robert Fuicks, Staff, COMTRANSGR Third Phib, F.P.0., San Francisco) Bob airmails:

"There are quite a few of us still living out here. Been out here for six months and recently .... have encountered Bill Jones who is with a weather outfit for the Navy, and also Dick Barstow who is on a cargo ship I am having trouble getting ALUMNI MAGS here for the simple reason that second class mail seems to be out for the duration I am in communications and have made the rounds of the South Pacific. I've also had a small respite in New Zealand where liquor is scarce, and women have never heard of Elizabeth Arden (Ed. Note:—oh, happy land). The girls will scramble for a bottle of nail polish." Bob would like to hear from Tom Schroth,Don Marty, and all Kappa Sigs.

Our department o£ over-seas addresses produces two new listings this month, to wit: Lt. Johnny Robinson, 0-700663 (censored); and Lewis Johnson, 11072261 (censored) c/o Postmaster, New York Finally there is the news that Lt. John Bartemus (who left school after his first year) has been reported missing by the War Department—in action over Germany on Dec. 30.

GENERALLY SPEAKING: Navy Air Cadet Stan Skaug is now at Chapel Hill and playing basketball for the "Cloudbursters." Characteristically, the school journal refers to him as "a hot pilot and much too modest.".... Commissions and promotions department note: Ens. Ed Lider, commissioned at Pensacola It's also Lt. Johnny Bushnell, Ens. Kevin Kenny and Ens. Ed Younglove now Warren Taylor writes from 50 Haven Ave. in N. Y. that he is with a small Dartmouth Med delegation at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, namely: Jerry von Wedel, Koo Delaney, and Harry Kramer (M' 43). "Hugh Lena and Davy Hoffman are at Cornell Med," he writes, adding a view of the Dartmouth-Columbia basketball game with the audience including: "Pfc Fred Geller, now at Brooklyn Poly Tech, Corporal Bing Donaldson, some '44s, and Dean Neidlinger—who really gave the Columbia game a semblance of Hanover." Warren says that Sgt. Bob Perkins, now at Camp Hale in the mountain troops, is considerably upset by G. I. skiing tactics which, he says, are based on the snow plow.

Walt Daggat writes from Glendale, California that he is a civilian now due to colorblindness. "At the tender age of 24 I have already begun my own private, war against weight. I bow to Johnny Krol for the honor of being the oldest, but I'm fast looming as one of the heaviest." Walt writes that StuGibbs is in the Los Angeles area and that "Kimmel and Driscoll got together for a brief time in San Francisco. Evidently they retain the old zest for life because they ended up atop DBs apt. with much noise and singing and received 13 complaints the next morning." ....
