Dr. W. H. Cowley '24, who recently resigned as head of Hamilton College, has accepted an appointment as Professor of Higher Education at Stanford University. His new teaching assignment, which will be confined to work with graduate students, will give Dr. Cowley sufficient time to continue the research and writing on problems of higher education in which he is deeply interested.
Dr. Cowley will go to Stanford on April 1 and during the winter will work on a book on the present and future of the liberal arts which he is writing under commission from the Carnegie Corporation and the Association of American Colleges.
At Dartmouth, Dr. Cowley was editor-in-chief of the Dartmouth and in his senior year was appointed chairman of a committee on undergraduate education at the College which prepared a report on the subject. He received his A.M. and Ph.D. in psychology from the University Of Chicago.
