The officer or officer candidate who reads ANaval Log will be somewhat misled by the title of this handy volume. He will find it to be a reference or source book rather than a chronology of events naval, as the title implies. Nevertheless, whatever disappointment results from this discovery will be short-lived for further reading will disclose the answers to a hundred and one questions of importance to him, all logically and neatly presented.
The authors brought to their task extensive first-hand experience with Navy directives, from their years of duty in the Training Division, Bureau of Naval Personnel. They have reproduced many parts of Naval Regulations, BuPers manuals, and other instructions which govern the procurement, training, and official duties of both regular and reserve officers. Thus their work is both authoritative and accurate. It should prove helpful, particularly to those recently or about to be commissioned.
