THE OBSERVANCE OF Dartmouth Night, November 9, in Hanover will largely take the form of a welcome to President elect John Sloan Dickey '29, who succeeds to the presidency November 1 upon the retirement of Mr. Hopkins. At the traditional celebration Dartmouth students and faculty and the Hanover community will meet in Webster Hall to hear the new leader of the College.
John R. McLane '07, chairman of the executive committee of the Board of Trustees, will preside at the Webster Hall program. The invocation will be given by Earl Cranston '16, Phillips Professor of Religion. Nichol M. Sandoe Jr. '45, president of Green Key, will speak in behalf of undergraduates. Messages from alumni clubs, traditionally received on Dartmouth Night, will be read by Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College. The glee club will be featured on the program. In connection with its celebration of Dartmouth Night the Dartmouth Club of New York will have a direct wire from Webster Hall for part of the program in Hanover.
Dartmouth Night has been observed for 51 years without interruption since its establishment by Dr. Tucker in the early years of his administration.
