Frederick A. Carroll '09, American Red Cross Commissioner for Great Britain and Western Europe, was killed October 16 in an automobile accident 30 miles north of Paris. Mr. Carroll was 58 years old.
He went on leave of absence in April from his post as vice president and trust officer in charge of the trust, transfer and real estate department of the National Shawmut Bank of Boston, to take on his important Red Cross assignment. At the time of his death he was en route to Luxembourg to review a distribution of Red Cross supplies there.
His wife, the former Mary E. Sheenan of Boston, a son, Lt. Robert M. Carroll '3B, submarine officer and holder of the Silver Star, and five daughters, Ruth A., Nancy J., Kathleen, Mary L., and Mrs. Florin Hailer survive him. Mr. Carroll's home was at 53 Shattuck Rd., Watertown, Mass.
