Two DARTMOUTH ALUMNI, veterans with distinguished war records, have been granted Cramer Fellowships for a year's graduate work in science. They are Major Colin E. Campbell '40, AAF, of Spring- field, Mass., and Lt. Charles E. Wilde Jr. '40, Sanitary Corps, AUS, of Nutley, N. J.

Major Campbell, an instructor in botany at Washington State University before his enlistment in the Army Air Forces in 1940, will use his fellowship in graduate study in plant pathology at Cornell. Lieutenant Wilde will go to the Princeton Graduate School to work in parasitology. He was an instructor in zoology at Dartmouth at the time of his enlistment in the Army Medical Corps in 1941.

Campbell's tour of duty included the Burma-India and the European-African- Middle East theatres. He wears the Bronze Star Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the European-African-Middle East ribbon with six campaign stars for the Tunisian, Algerian, Sicilian, southern and central Italy and southern France campaigns, as well as the Asia Pacific ribbon with one star for the Burma campaign.

Lieutenant Wilde was overseas from 1942 to January 1944 with a malaria control unit in the Liberian jungles, Accra, Senegal, Mauretania, and the Sahara Desert. He received his honorable medical discharge in March 1945 following long hospitalization for malaria and filariasis. He holds the Good Conduct Medal, a citation for meritorious service in Liberia, and wears the Europe-African ribbon and the American Defense ribbon with overseas star.

* One of these with which Dartmouth is cooperating is the Advisory Bureau for College Men Returning from the Services, embracing alumni groups from 19 leading Eastern colleges. It has headquarters at the Harvard Club of Boston, 374 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, Mass., and is directed by an executive council of which E. J. Shattuck '10 of Dartmouth is a member. Its twofold purpose is to offer free advice and guidance to veterans undecided about a resumption of their educational careers and to direct returning college men to suitable positions that may lead to permanent careers in business and industry. Its list of available positions is compiled from information sent to it by alumni groups of the participating colleges.
