THE RETURN TO THE CAMPUS of over 250 veterans, some with their wives, made the opening of the winter term both an exciting and a joyous occasion for the College officials. Professor Wm. Stuart Messer in his article on The Veteran Returns describes how the Special Committee on Academic Adjustments, which he heads, handled the many problems incident to "reconverting" these ex-servicemen to undergraduate students.
President Dickey's first address to the student body, "A Call for Doing," appears in this issue, together with an account of his induction and the Trustees' Resolution on the occasion of Dr. Hopkins' retirement.
Professor E. Gordon Bill, Dean of the Faculty, is "unmasked" by Prof. Herbert F. West '22 in the December profile.

The Cover Ruffled curtains at the Fayerweather windows evidence the new feminine influence at Dartmouth. The Bynum Hintons' curtains, framing the smiling G.I. couple on the cover, are the daintiest. Hinton is a '42 man and before returning to Dartmouth as a student, was a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve with 55 months of service, 37 of them at sea. David Pierce took the picture.
