CARL F. WOODS '04, Vice President of the Crosby Steam Gage and Valve Co., Boston, has been appointed one of the two Visitors on the Chandler Foundation. He succeeds the late Eleazar Cate '88 in the post.
The newly appointed Visitor is a former President of the Dartmouth Alumni Council and of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston. He has also served as head of the Dartmouth College Athletic.Council.
Mr. Woods shares his duties as Visitor with a classmate, Edward K. Robinson '04, treasurer of Ginn and Co., Boston. The duties of the two Visitors as defined by Abiel Chandler, who established the Foundation in 1852, are to "determine, interpret and explain my wishes in respect to this Foundation" and to examine periodically its management and finances. Under the Foundation a school of instruction in the practical and useful arts was organized at Dartmouth, later to be incorporated into the College as a department in 1893.
