SKY HIGHWAYS-GEOGRAPHY FROM THE AIR

by Trevor Lloyd, illustrated byArmstrong Sperry. Houghton Mifflin, 1945,61 pp., $2.50.

Trevor Lloyd, who is Professor of Geography at Dartmouth, in simple language and with the aid of many colored and black-and-white illustrations by Armstrong Sperry, has written a book for young people that answers such questions as: How does our world look from the air? What world air routes will be flown in the immediate future? Geographic conditions of land and air encountered on a flight around the world are described by the authors. The imaginary flight carries the reader from Washington, D. C., to Natal in Brazil, across Africa to India, and through Siberia to Alaska and back to the starting point. Questions about airplanes, weather, topography flown over and oceanography as seen from the air are described or illustrated in simple, readable phraseology and diagrams.

The book is a distinct addition to publications on world geography of and from the air. The young reader will not only acquire an accurate picture of airway operations, routes and geography of many lands but will find it easy reading and delightful entertainment. Few authors succeed in combining scientific accuracy, simple wordage and apt illustrations to the degree found within the covers of SkyHighways.
