NROTC Degree Change
March 1946

FOR THE BENEFIT of NROTC officer candidates unable to finish eight terms in college under recent changes in the Navy training program, the College early in February announced further modification of the degree requirements in their special cases. Under the revised requirements, these men may graduate at the end of seven terms if they have 120 semester hours of credit. Completion of the Navy's requirements for a commission is no longer a condition of the degree and no minimum number of Naval Science courses is specified.

For the A.B. degree the officer candidate must complete 60 of his 120 hours in liberal arts; must have four or more terms of residence at Dartmouth; must have a grade average of at least 1.8 in all courses taken; and must have completed eight courses of an academic major in the liberal arts or twelve courses in one in engineering or business administration. Men who complete all these requirements except the academic major are eligible for the Bachelor of Naval Science degree.

Modification of degree requirements for the NROTC candidate was first made by the faculty last April so that conditions for the degree and a commission could be met simultaneously. At that time the new degree of Bachelor of Naval Science was created for those not completing an academic major.
