When R. H. Macy & Cos. opened its new Jamaica, N. Y., store, replete with roof-top parking and all, the crowd, confusion and headaches were terrificand a Dartmouth man was at the dead center of it. He was Richard M. Cukor '3l, store manager, who directed 500 regular and 175 extra salesmen, and who every once in a while looked outdoors to see how the ninety policemen were making out with the jam of customers and traffic snarls.
Cukor spent six months getting ready for Macy's big Jamaica opening, which went over even better than his highest expectations, he reported. An unending stream of customers from opening until closing bought everything from safety pins to iceboxes. Cukor, a former Navy lieutenant, is a- veteran of 15 years' service with Macy's, having started with them immediately after graduating from Dartmouth.
