THE OPENING of Dartmouth's 179th academic year on October 3 holds uncommon interest in the educational world, for it marks the start of the widely hailed Great Issues Course, required of all seniors. The ALUMNI MAGAZINE has invited Thomas W. Braden '40, executive secretary of the course, to describe the aims and content of the College's novel educational experiment, and his article will be found on Page 15.
In the realm of Dartmouth alumni relations, nothing is of greater importance today than the matter of admissions. In order to give Dartmouth men a full understanding of the general situation and especially of the question of admission of alumni sons, we present, starting on Page 19, an article by Albert I. Dickerson '30, director of admissions. Mr. Dickerson's article is a masterly job of both writing and exposition, and we feel certain that it will throw strong light on a subject not always factually discussed.
As a third but shorter feature this month we also present, on Page 28, a description of for latest plans for the new Hopkins Center.
