Heads Navy Committee
February 1947

President emeritus hopkins was named by Secretary of the Navy Forrestal last month to head a three-man civilian committee to study the Navy's administration of Guam and American Samoa. In addition to Mr. Hopkins as chairman, the committee includes former Governor Maurice J. Tobin of Massachusetts and Dr. Knowles A. Ryerson of the University of California agriculture college. The committee will fly to Guam and American Samoa to inspect their administration by the Navy.

Mr. Hopkins was also elected last month to the Board of Directors of the Brown Company of Berlin, N. H., one of the country's largest firms dealing in wood pulp and paper products. He will also continue as one of the three trustees under the voting trust for the company's preferred and common stock, a position which he has held for a number of years following a reorganization of the firm.
