THE BIG ANNUAL DINNER at the Commodore on April 16 turned out to be one of the best ever, with old-time song and fellowship providing the sort of Dartmouth family party that New York has not had at this annual event for a long time. George Carpenter '10, editor of the Club News, has done such a perfect job in describing the spirit of the dinner that we can't do better than to quote a few of his paragraphs: Prexy Dickey brought the message from Hanover plenty of intimate detail as well as a picture of the Dartmouth Fellowship scattered across the nation. Increasingly he forswears forum phraseology and is rounding to emphasis on the realistic in his annual dinner talks. Prexy reuned with '29 at the club after the dinner.

The crowd and songs inspired Dean Neidlinger to one of the great addresses of his speaking career, brimming with power and appeal. The Dean grows grey and mellow. His tribute to the loyal alumni warmed every heart. As one of his classmates said, "Tonight 'Pudge' had everything Dartmouth men expect of a Dartmouth man."

W. W. Lougee 'BB, and a spry stepper, won out for oldest-man-back over F. S. Martyn '94. Larry Lougee '29, snapper-back for N. Y.'s Dartmouth Society of Lawyers, did a popular promenade with his dad 'round the hall.

When Les Wiggin ('10's piano player) out in Los Angeles saw in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE that Harry McDevitt 'O7 was to sing in N. Y. he wired, "Harry, sing Chinatown at New York for ME." Folks say Chinatown is Harry's greatest number, but that "Irish Lullaby," that "Tur-alur-a-lay" weren't they the music!!! They call him the peer of all-time college song leaders, but that's only the half of it. Harry Mc. is Dartmouth—and Dartmouth-hungry hundreds won't forget that evening he gave them for many and many a year.

Mort Hull 'OB is just the sort Hovey had in mind as he wrote the line "when good fellows get together." . . . . With twenty tingling songs on tap, with his old "box" slung over his shoulder and with understanding heart attuned in fellowship no, there's no finer recipe for a golden hour. His "My Grandfather John" song took his audienceright back to Norwich, Leb and Aetna hillsides.

Folks not seen often enough included "Bucky" Lewers '03, of the magically mobilized glee club; Stuart Knight '23 (Boston); George Boggs '14 (Wolfville, Nova Scotia); Rog Wilde '21 (Chicago);: Takanga Mitsui '43, son of Takanobu Mitsui '15; Rev. Arthur Stanley Wheelock '14, descendant of Eleazar; Lew Stone '19 (Chicago); E. D. Crowley '23 (Boston); the longest-distance man Frederic A. Fisher '23 from Portland, Ore.; "Bishop"1 Niles '07 (Boston), and George Leach 'll of Chicago.

Cliff Hart '21, chairman-bellringer of the Brooklyn Chapter of Amer. Inst, of Architects, gave the tables festive air with the handsome class numeral markers he turned out. His snappy presentation speech for the attendance award to Ernie Earley's turn-out of 28 for '18 won him a big hand. Runners up in the cup race were '07 with 12 and '23 with 33.

Although one or two minor complexities forced last minute changes in the line-of-march, President John Moore gracefully slid into the Em-See chair and gave the evening pep and verve by his snappy introductions and his succinct but clear summary of Club affairs with emphasis on the good progress of the Permanency Fund. His administration of the past two years has been notable.

With the waning of a very happy season at the Club, the three test questions in Pete's rainy afternoon room remain unanswered by many of the patrons. Can you qualify? Where is Lewiston, Vermont? Where is Butterfield Hall? Subtract 2/3 of 7/8 from 2/3 divided by ys. Memberships accepted regardless of your I.Q. at 37 East 39th Street, New York City. Thanks and farewell to New York. See you in Hanover.

WANDERING MINSTRELS AT NEW YORK DINNER: Providing the song at the recent annual New York Association Dinner were, left to right, Ralph Lewers '03, Harry McDevitt 07, Mort Hull '09 and Charles Warren '11.
