July 1947

WITH THIS ISSUE we close Volume 39 and skip two months before opening Volume 40 in October. This marks the return to our usual prewar practice of publishing ten consecutive issues, October through July, and, as is the custom with that publishing schedule, this final July issue is almost entirely a review of Commencement and class reunions.

We are proud to publish in entirety as distinguished a set of Commencement addresses as have ever been made on this campus and, we think, on any other. President Dickey's concise Valedictory to the graduating class (Page 10) warns them that the issues of peace are not as clear as those of war—"They have no sharp beginning and no certain end." Justice Robert H. Jackson, honorary degree recipient, examines U. S.-Soviet relations in the Commencement Address (Page 11); and Albert J. Colton II '47 warns his classmates against the evils of prejudice and intolerance in his Valedictory to the College (Page 15).
