Tuck-Thayer Graduation
July 1947

THE TUCK SCHOOL of Business Administration held its graduation exercises on June 4 and at that time awarded the degree of Master of Commercial Science to 94 second- year men. Two days later the Thayer School of Engineering closed its academic year by awarding degrees to 28 men at its 75th graduation exercises. President Dickey conferred the degrees on both occasions.

The principal address at the Tuck School exercises was given by John F. Gugelmann, Tuck '39, of Langenthal, Switzerland, who was in this country on a business trip at the time of graduation. William S. Clark '42 of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, president of the Clearing House, spoke on behalf of the graduating class: and Dean Herluf V. Olsen '22 also spoke briefly.

A variety of degrees were conferred by President Dickey at the Thayer School exercises. The Master of Science degree was awarded to nine men in the civil engineering course, four in the mechanical engineering course, three in the electrical engineering course, and seven in the combined course in business and engineering which Thayer School offers in conjunction with Tuck School. One man received the degree of Civil Engineer, and four others received the degree of Bachelor of Civil Engineering. Dean William P. Kimball '28 presented the graduates and also spoke briefly.

As part of the Thayer exercises, a new metalloscope for the metallurgical laboratory was presented to Thayer School as a memorial to Clarence Powers Edmunds '47 of Fort Fairfield, Maine, ski team member and Thayer School student, who was killed in an auto accident last year. His classmate, Robert A. Schroeder '47, made the presentation on behalf of the Edmunds family.
