'09 Artist Honored

Russell Cowles '09, noted American artist, was honored by an exhibition of 13 of his paintings in Dartmouth's Carpenter Art Galleries during June. throughout his long and distinguished career, Cowles has remained an experimental painter. After studying with the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design, he travelled over a good part of the world, studying in China, Bali, and Rome. Today his work, both abstract and realistic, is in art museums in Denver, Minneapolis, Santa Barbara, Terre Haute, and Wichita.

Another June exhibition honoring Cowles was held in the new Des Moines Art Museum in his native lowa.
