THE Dartmouth College Athletic Council ended its fiscal year June 30 with an operating deficit of $12,815.79, the first such loss since 1941. In addition, the DCAC spent $3,207.87 from its General Fund for new office accommodations to bring the total net loss to 116,023.66 and to reduce its reserve fund to $23,623.84.
• Operating income dropped from $318,000 of the previous year to $303,477, the chief decreases being in basketball ($3200), football ($9200) and hockey ($5600). Football and basketball were the only sports which had an operating surplus. Total income was $15,000 larger than anticipated, but disappointing in view of increased expenses.
Operating expenses jumped from a budgeted $352,500 and from the preceding year's $301,400 to $316,293. Expenses were materially reduced in baseball, basketball, hockey, swimming and freshman track but increased in varsity and freshman football. Almost all expenses were greater than anticipated in the budget including an additional $40,000 in sports and $23,000 in administration.
