by Lawrence Treat '24.William Morrow & Co., 1948; 250 pages;$2.50.
William Morrow's detective stories are almost invariably superior ones, and this one is no exception. Mr. Treat after nearly a dozen mysteries to his credit here writes a somewhat different type of story than heretofore. There is in Over The Edge less police method and detection displayed than in his previous books. In a story built up for suspense with reasonable success Mr. Treat tells of one Alex Rambeau, of his connection with the murdered woman, and how, after several twists and turns of plot, he frees his conscience, a man wrongly convicted of murder by a jury of which he was the foreman, and demonstrates to the police who had committed the murder, and how it had happened.
Mr. Treat writes with the confidence of a practised hand.
