THE REPORT OF THE FACULTY COMMITTEE on the Library for 1946-47 revealed that during this period circulation figures returned to the pre-war level with 99,480 volumes taken out at the main circulation desk and an additional 228,947 at the reserve desk. The change is attributable to the shift from the use of government supplied texts, the increase in the size of faculty and student body, and to the introduction of new courses.

During the year 21,425 volumes were added, bringing the total to 639,899. The additions included 3,234 items given to the Library by its friends, among which were some 900 original Belgian documents ranging from the year 1525 to 1900, a valuable collection of works on the Arctic, and a number of first editions and material of historical interest to the College in the form of letters of Samson Occom, Eleazar Wheelock, and the Earl of Dartmouth.

Members of the Faculty Committee on the Library are Prof. Norman K. Arnold, chairman, Nathaniel L. Goodrich, Librarian, and Professors Chauncey N. Allen '24, L. Dean Pearson, Fred W. Perkins, Herbert F. West '22 and John R. Williams
