A WILDERNESS TRACT OF 26,000 acres in northern New Hampshire—known as the Dartmouth Grant—is one of the College's important assets; yet its history and what goes on there are not very widely known among Dartmouth men. The ALUMNI MAGAZINE invited Robert S. Monahan '29, College Forester and General Manager of the Dartmouth Outing Club, to do an article on the Grant. The excellent result, Stumps and Scholarships, starting on Page 13, tells the story of all four of the land grants which have figured in Dartmouth's history, but greatest attention is given to the present Dartmouth Grant, "where the Diamond flows into the Magalloway and the Magalloway into the Androscoggin" and where recreational and educational possibilities are tremendous.
A pictorial feature on Pages 18-19 describes the work of The College Museum, which is bursting at the seams with 119,000 items.
Thanks to the research of Richard G. Wood '22 of the National Archives, the documented story of the early consular career of Edward Tuck '62 is told for the first time. Entitled Edward Tuck as Consul, it will be found on Pages 20-21 with reproductions of two of the National Archives documents.

The Cover A sure sign of approaching spring, the Hanover haberdashers have broken forth with Bermuda posters and displays of masculine finery. Still dressed for the realities of Hanover's March weather, two students inspect a Campion model in Adrian Bouchard's cover picture.
