ON MARCH 27, at one o'clock at the San Diego Club, twenty-two members and friends of the Dartmouth Alumni Group assembled for a luncheon in honor of the Secretary of Dartmouth College. Prominent at the head table were Vance Dickerman '31, president of the San Diego Association, the guest of honor Sidney Hayward '26 at his right, and at his left Dick Hood '30, who with Bill Adams '34 had driven down from Los Angeles to represent the Southern California Alumni Association.

Tex Morris '12, first president, was there with his good friend from Denver, Dave Main 'os. Next to them were Leonard Manley '13 and Parker Meade '22, local vice-president. Other guests included David Balmer '38, Bernie Cunningham '33, Thomas Chambers '23, Laurance Dalton '28, Roy Dickerson '28, Robert Greene '46, Mack Grove '46, Karl King, Stan Osgood '36, Clif Power '31, Dohrman Sinclair '28, Dick Sankey '31, George Stock '37, John Thompson '26, Dexter Wilbar '26.

During the cross table talk which continued through the luncheon, the subject of the sturdy character and enthusiasm of the local group was discussed in connection with the possibility of a friendly parting of the ways from the Southern California Association to effect an independent unit in San Diego. This thought was furthered and recommended by Dick Hood speaking for the Los Angeles group, of which heretofore we have been a section. When it came time for the business portion of the meeting, it was moved and seconded that from this point on we go on our own, at the same time expressing to the Los Angeles officers sincere appreciation for the assistance and cooperation which they have always given. After discussion this motion was unanimously passed with the amendment that all alumni residing in San Diego and Imperial Counties be included.

President Dickerman called on Bill Adams (instrumental in starting the San Diego group) who spoke sympathetically of the first meetings and the friendly contacts with Dartmouth servicemen who passed through San Diego during the war years.

The highlight of the occasion was a talk by Sidney Hayward during which he covered admissions, athletics, and other pertinent and interesting facts from Hanover. A question period which followed the talk showed the genuine interest with which it had been received.

The meeting adjourned after the showing of colored slides of Hanover scenes and personalities.
