'31 really turned out en mass for the RedRolfe dinner in New York early this summer. The roster of those attending sounds more like the twentieth reunion than any meeting the class has held so far. Those making the dinner, a tribute to Dartmouth's outstanding baseballer were: Bill Wilson, Dan Denham,Ken Fraser, John Goodwillie, Bill Schuldenfrei, Ed Mass, Marty Zinn, Charlie Engstrom,Red Gristede, Dutch Holland, Dick Denby,Art Boardman, Will Light, Mill Halenbeck,Dick Holbrook, Dick Cukor, Frank Hodson,Jack Bean, Charlie McAllister, Frank McCord,Frank Blatz, Chubby Hetfield, Doug Carlson,Gus Weston, Hugh Neily, Jack Warwick,Ernie Moore, Joe Ruskey, Ed Studwell, DougTed Harms, Sid Rubin, Bill Walsh,Charlie Stmi-nson, Al Touas, Pete Boynton,Hank Richmond, Doug Morris, Bob Fredericks, Mel Livison, Bob Spotts, Bob Wallace,Vic Rockhill, Ned Rosen, Chuck O'Neill, BillLittle, Nick Nichols and Joe Choate.

Another outstanding get-together, a little later in the summer, was the '31 picnic at the D.O.C. Cabin in Groton. 25 22 wives and two offspring were on hand. Taking into consideration the paunchiness and the receding hair lines, how many can you spot? A can of Croft Ale goes to the one sending in the first correct list.

Jack and Margaret Bean announced the arrival of their fifth child, second boy, Christopher Vernon, on July 5. Does Jack head the list of proud fathers or do we have someone else in the class who has a larger clan? The Hanover Inn was a favorite vacationing spot during the summer months. Among those checking in were: Mr. and. Mrs. K. W. Fraser of Old Greenwich, Conn., Mr. and Mrs. A. G.Boardman and family of Maplewood, N. J., Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rick of Reading, Pa. (incidentally Jim is keeping up his interest in the Navy as Executive Officer of the Volunteer Naval Transportation Service Company in Reading), Mr. and Mrs. Bob Huntley, from New York, Red Gristede and family, BernieBoyle from Plandome, N.Y., Jack Weisert and clan from Chicago and Jim Godfrey from Concord.

On June 11, Dorothy Walker and DaveHewes were married in Berkeley, Calif. Dave is completing his Ph.D. at the University of California this fall. Bob Sloane continues to give us excellent radio entertainment with his "Big Story". Bob also writes the scripts for "Reader's Digest" and "Mr. and Mrs. North". Ed Brummer was the principal speaker at the Resort Operators Convention in Durham last spring. Bax Ball has stepped up another rung in the ladder with the General Petroleum Corporation by being promoted to assistant to the Vice-president in charge of marketing. CharlieMcAllister has been elected chairman of the Board of Directors of the Life Underwriters' Association of the City of New York. He also received the 1949 National Quality Award for his record in life insurance conservation.

The new firm Arthur Stewart Company in Albuquerque, N. M. is going strong with Art Speigel and Stew Rose as partners. Stew is living at 1107 West Kent Street while Art gives his address as that of the firm, 918 West Central Ave. Ken Anderson is with the Life Insurance Agency Management Association in Hartford and lives at 22 Cassilis Road, West Hartford, Conn. Prof. Frank Nichols is teaching at the Oregon College of Education, Monmouth, Ore., Bob Anderson is a psychologist with the Veterans Administration in Togus, Me., Eddie O'Connor is now living at 16 Cliff Street, Maiden, Mass. Ed Mecutchen, has moved to 3203 Coquelin Terrace, Chevy Chase, Md., Don Cruikshank is living at 100 Park Road, RockclifEe Park, Ottawa, Ont.

Ed"Lagenbach is keeping right busy with his numerous civic activities in Weston, Mass., his three sons and his law practice. Incidentally, Ed is trying to drum up more interest in the D.O.C. of Boston, of which he is treasurer. Buell Whitehill has been appointed head of the new Department of Speech established at the University of Pittsburgh. Before going to Pittsburgh Buell was assistant professor of speech and director of theatre at Marshall College. Ernie Moore writes that while your secretary was enjoying a Navy cruise to Jamaica and Haiti this summer some of the other members of the class were enjoying Navy life too. Walt Douglas cruised the California coast and Nels Greenlund took a tour of duty in Newport. Continued connection with the organized reserve is to be recommended to all former Navy hands.

You will be receiving a letter soon from EdStudwell asking you for up-to-date dope for this column. The summer news was scarce. How about dropping a line to Ed or directly to me at the above address? Or better yet get that check off to Bill Schuldenfrei pronto and enclose some dirt or dope.

A MEMORY TEST FOR 1931 IS PROVIDED BY THIS PICNIC GROUP AT GROTON IN JUNE
