It was good to see Ted Johnson's beaming face in a film we had from the New Hampshire State Development Commission recently. In "Ski Trails of New Hampshire" there is an excellent shot of the old maestro, putting on his skiis prior to an ascent to Tuckerman's.
Bill Steck reports that Bob Zimmerman's first-born arrived January 6, Lee Elliott Zim merman is another of our fast growing group of '31 juniors. Spence Cram rounded out his family on November 28, 1946 when Richard Stiven Cram joined his brother and two sisters. This puts Spence in the two sons, two daughters class with Steck and Goodwillie.
Ernest H. Earley of the Class of 1918 has been most helpful in sending along bits of '31 news. He writes: "Your Bill Minehan is an extremely highly regarded citizen with the Northwestern Mutual. At a convention January 3 at the Waldorf, Bill tackled an extremely difficult subject and for 30 or 40 minutes, kept 500 to 1000 people interested in his beautiful and attractive delivery and complete mastery of his subject. The whole damned institution loves that guy." On February 5, he wrote: "VicRockhill was made a second vice president of the Chase Bank." Congratulations to you Vic.
Bill Schuldenfrei has forwarded several excellent letters to add grist to the mill thismonth. Dick Henry wrote from Manila:
I am in Manila temporarily attached to the Inspection Staff of the Bank and expect to return to the States the end of the month. Haying been separated from my family the entire time, I am now on my way home to rejoin them. My plans from there on are rather unsettled. Conditions in the Far East, especially China, are most unattractive and I am afraid things are bound to get worse before they improve. Here in Manila things are not too bad. Although the entire city is still pretty well battered noticeable improvement has taken place in the past year.
"Si" Leach is still with the Searle GrainCompany Limited, Winnepeg, Canada. Hewrites to Bill:
Do not know whether you remember or not, but during our freshman year I possessed a movie camera and have a few shots of some, of the boys from New Hamp. There is one of yourself and Skip Hall, both of which look very life-like, but I wonder whether any of us have as much hair now as we did then—l certainly have not! There is also a picture of that worthy philosopher, one Art Kendall, the every ready source of advice to any freshman who wished to increase his bewilderment. I get quite a kick out of running over those pictures and it certainly seems amazing that practically 20 years have gone by so quickly. If the next 20 years go by just as quickly, our children will have been in and out of the College and heaven only knows where we will be! ... . Now that travel might become a little more possible in the future, I 'certainly hope that anyone who is coming near Winnepeg will let me know as I do not get much of a chance to see very many of the boys.
