WITH MID-YEAR examinations and Winter Carnival out of the way, the second semester, which began February 14, has got away to a good start with a number of excellent guest lecturers visiting Tuck during the last three weeks.

On Febraury 14, James A. Hamilton T'23 discussed current problems in hospital administration with the first-year group in Industrial Relations. The following day Jim met with the second-year General Management group, and gave a stimulating presentation of the status of hospital planning and administration. Jim will be remembered by many as a former member of the Tuck School faculty. At present, he is head of Hospital Associates, a nationally known consulting firm specializing in hospital planning and administration and located in Minneapolis.

Robert L. White, Associate General Agent of the Wellman-Burroughs Agency, Manchester, N. H., visited the School on February 17 for a meeting with the General Management class. Mr. White's discussion centered about the application of life insurance to estate planning and to business operations. A former member of the staff at Purdue's Life Insurance Institute, Mr. White presented many interesting examples of successful and unsuccessful estate plans, pension plans, group insurance plans, and. ''key-man" insurance.

The following Monday, Sigurd S. Larmon D'14, Trustee of the College, met with the members of the Advertising course to describe the organization of the typical advertising agency and the manner in which an agency approaches the task of building an advertising campaign. Mr. Larmon is Chairman of the Board and President of Young and Rubicam.

Kirt A. Meyer Jr. T'33, a merchandising vice-president of Macy's, discussed with the Retailing class the current problems facing the retailers and the manner in which these problems are being attacked. The meeting, held on February 22, proved to be a very interesting session.

On February 24, James H. Taylor, Director of Industrial Relations, Procter & Gamble Company visited Tuck for meetings with the first- and second-year classes. In the first-year class in Industrial Relations, he discussed developments of Procter & Gamble's current policies governing relationships between company and employees. In the second-year class in Management and Organized Labor, Mr. Taylor discussed typical problems resulting from collective bargaining relationships.

F. Alexander Magoun, Professor of Human Relations, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, met with the first-year group in Industrial Relations on Friday, March 4, to discuss Training the Emotions. He also spoke before the second-year class in Management and Organized Labor. Professor Magoun is President of Human Relations, Inc., Boston, and is widely known as the author of Loveand Marriage, Balanced Personality, Fundamentals in Human Engineering, etc.

Professor J. Edward Walters was the guest speaker at a meeting of the Pittsburgh Personnel Association on Thursday, February 10. The subject of his discussion was "Developing Employee Morale."

Blair McClenachan T'4B is located at 19691 Bigelow Street, Roseville, Mich., with duPont.

J. H. Stephenson T'4B is with the Philadelphia division of Yale and Towne where he is in the industrial truck sales training program. He visited Tuck while in Hanover for the Winter Carnival weekend.

Herbert L. Shulman T'4B and his fiancee, Miss Barbara JafEe, visited Tuck over Carnival weekend.
