New Court Coach
April 1950

As this issue was about to go to press, the appointment of a new basketball coach was announced by William H. McCarter '19, director of athletics. Dartmouth's new court leader will be Alvin F. (Doggy) Julian, coach of the Boston Celtics for the past two years, and before that highly successful coach at Muhlenberg and Holy Cross.

Elmer Lampe, who turns over the job to Julian after four years as court mentor, will remain at Dartmouth as end coach and chief scout on the varsity football staff.

Julian, 48, will also be freshman football coach. Graduate of Bucknell in 1923, he was head football coach at Albright for six years and later, from 1936 to 1945, coached basketball and football at Muhlenberg, where his court teams were twice in the National Invitation Tournament. In 1945 he went to Holy Cross where his basketball teams won 65 and lost only 10 games in three seasons, the 1946-47 five winning the NCAA championship.
