The following members of the Class attended the annual Boston Alumni Dinner at the Copley Plaza Hotel on Wednesday eveing ning, March 1: Caesar Young, Mike Norton,Sunny Buell, Wally Wallburg, Fletcher Clark,John Parks, Ben Hunt, Pett Pettingell, RayCabot, Lyme Armes and Cliff Sugatt. AU looked well and prosperous. Sonny had not been with the Class at similar occasions for several years and all were glad to see him again. Cliff was at the hotel on a business trip and did not know of the dinner until he bumped into Ray that evening. All had a real visit with him. Some had not seen him since graduation and none had seen him since the 25th Reunion in 1937. Harold Belcher was to have been there but was laid up at home with a virus germ.
The Boston Herald of March 1 carried a picture of Frank Weil with other clergymen in attendance at the annual meeting of the Archdeaconry of Boston and the Episcopal City Mission. Frank is rector of the Church of St. Matthew's and the Redeemer in South Boston.
The Department of State made public, in a release dated March 9, the membership and personal data of the Department Loyalty and Security Board, of which Connie Snow is the chairman. In connection therewith Deputy Under Secretary of State John E. Peurifoy issued the following statement: "I have been shocked by Senator McCarthy's charges concerning the caliber and competence of the Loyalty and Security Board of the Department of State. This Board is chaired by General Conrad Snoxv of New Hampshire. Its members, including the chairman, were picked by me personally. I picked them not only on the basis of their unimpeachable character and high standing, both inside and outside the Department, but because they are good sound citizens from the standpoint of their thinking, judgment, and level-headedness. I don't believe that anybody need do more than look at the records of these men to satisfy himself as to their competency."
The sad news is reported of the death of Honey Brooks at his home in Brooklyn, N. Y., on March 15. Apparently he suffered a heart attack at his office and was taken home, where his death occurred. He was resident manager of the Brooklyn office of Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, a position that he had occupied for some years. Honey was regarded in the New York area as one of the outstand- chairmen of the committees interviewing applicants for Dartmouth. He is survived by his wife, and daughter, Mrs. Edward Carey. When I arrived home on the evening of Honey's death, I found a call from RandyBurns, who gave me the news. I promptly telephoned Lyme Armes at his home in Winchester, Mass., and he was able immediately to airmail Mrs. Brooks the engraved card telling of the gift by the Class to the Dartmouth College Library of an "old and rare" book in Honey's memory.

Now that you have all read the detailed report of the results of the 1949 Alumni Fund Campaign, congratulations are in order from every member of the Class to EddieLuitwieler and his committee for achieving 102% of the amount of the objective assigned to the Class. However, none of us can rest on our laurels and, again this year, let us support a repeat on the excellent record that Eddie made in his first year as Class Agent. How about sending that check now?
For the record, and as reported in the 38th Year, No. 1 issue of The Billboard, LyleChase was married October 9, 1948, 1912's newest bride being the former Mrs. Bertha Ward, who joined the Detroit Department of Health about the same time that Lyle did.
Deepest sympathy of the entire Class is extended to Jim English and his wife on the loss o£ their only child, Elizabeth English Davison, who died in Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, on March 18, of complications from an extended illness. She was born June 29, 1924 at Freehold, N. J., and lived in Grove City, Pa., from 1931, when Jim became a member of the faculty of Grove City College, until 1945, when she married Allan M. Davison, of West Brookfield, Mass. She graduated with honors from Grove City College in the class of 1945.
The last week in March, Doc O'Connor and I attended a meeting of the International Poliomyelitis Congress at Boca Raton, Fla., after which we were at Georgia Warm Springs Foundation, Warm Springs, Ga., in connection with business of the Foundation. Irma accompanied me on the trip.
After the foregoing class notes had been mailed to Hanover, a long-distance telephone call from Eddie Luitwieler conveyed the sad news of the death of our Class Treasurer, Ralph Pettingell, on Sunday morning, March 26. Pett had apparently been in good health but was stricken with a heart attack and died while his physician was attending him. His genial countenance will be sorely missed at the Class Officers' Meetings in Hanover this May as well as at our 40th Reunion. In the past, many an item in the class notes came from letters you wrote Pett in paying your annual class dues, with his sprightly comments appende'd thereto. The most profound sympathy of every member of the class is extended to his wife Emma and his two daughters.
A MEMBER OF THE CLASS OF 1912 who received a hearty welcome at the class reunion in January held in Los Angeles was Brian Robie (center) who, because of his travels, has often been absent. A self-taught pianist, he plays in Veterans Hospitals and elsewhere in California, and has written a book entitled The Desert Rats' Musical Shorthand System" for those who, like himself, possess talent but no formal instruction. In the picture with him are (1 to r), classmates Sam Hobbs, Olie Ahlswede, Basil O'Connor, and Dr. Bill Jepson—all of whom vouch for the validity of Robie's beard and whiskers.
