DARTMOUTH MENLuncheon Every Wednesday NoonWilliam Perm Hotel GrillPittsburgh, Pa.
The weekly luncheons at the William Penn Hotel Grill continue to have from twelve to fifteen alumni attending each week. The following alumni attended the luncheon meeting this past week: Bob Jordan '40, Ray Helm '40, Jack Kelsey '42, Jim Critchfield '49, Stew Steffey '41, Ed Byrkit '47, Merrill McLain '42, George Scott '25, Bill Eaton '17, Carl Tourtellot '45, Ed Chinlund '29, Nat Parker '26, Mac Corner '44.
Ed Chinlund, our new President, discussed the developments on our alumni picnic in June to be held at Shadyside Academy where all the alumni who desire can play golf and Softball and the children will have plenty of ground on which to run around. The picnic is slated tentatively for Saturday, June 24. All you Dartmouth alumni in the Pittsburgh area be sure to reserve that date for the annual picnic.
The Dartmouth Pow-Wow was also discussed, which for all of you who haven't heard is the tremendous shindig on the weekend of October 6-7 at Detroit and Ann Arbor for the Dartmouth-Michigan football weekend. There is to be a big dinner party on Friday, October 6 at the Hotel Statler in Detroit, the game on October 7, and a big formal dance in Detroit on Saturday night. Alumni from all over the Midwest are expected to attend, so that is another weekend to reserve for Dartmouth activities.
A small Dartmouth gathering at the apartment of Jim and Lois Hooker this past month was attended by Barbara and Jim Olsen, Mary and Carl Krogh, and Velma and Mac Corner. Jim Hooker, not trying to be malicious, suggested playing poker, but it just happened to turn out that he and Big Jim Olsen practically cleaned Carl and mc. Naturally, the wives had a great time talking about children and washing machines. There was an interesting side talk on why more alumni affairs did not include wives. On this matter the writer has a perfectly clear conscience in that this subject was brought up at the annual meeting and unconditionally squashed, but, believe me, I'll keep trying.
Any of you who are interested in having some beautiful paintings for your house should contact Buss Benner '44. Buss took up painting on board ship during the war and it has been his hobby ever since. He now has his house well arrayed with beautiful paintings of Bermuda, Mexico, flowers, and old farm houses. Buss is now Assistant Treasurer of National Roll and Foundry Company in Avonmore, Pa.
All Pittsburgh alumni be sure to reserve the weekend of June 24 for the Dartmouth picnic and of October 6-7 for the Detroit Pow-wow.
