The condolence of the class goes out to our classmate Prof. Emeritus John H. Gerould on the death of his brother James Thayer Gerould '95, librarian emeritus of Princeton, June 8, at his residence in Williamsburg, Va. His In Memoriam appeared in the June issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. A younger brother, Gordon Hall Gerould '99, is Professor Emeritus in English at Princeton. The father of this brilliant trio was Samuel L. Gerould '58, secretary, Statistical Secretary, of the Congregational Churches of N. H. Together they constitute one of Dartmouth's most distinguished and scholarly families.

The secretary was first apprised of the passing of Mabel Locke, the widow of ArthurLocke, by her nephew Richard S. Rolfe 'si, who also gave me, at my request, the data as to the activities of that remarkable woman. Her death occurred last February 28. The funeral services were held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Penacook, N. H., March 3. She assisted her husband Arthur in the compilation of the Locke family genealogy which is an outstanding piece of work in that field. She was treasurer of the Penacook, Boscawen district nursing association; treasurer of St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Penacook; treasurer of the Locke family association; member of the New Hampshire Historical Society, the Penacook Women's Club, Grafport Club of Portsmouth, the Portsmouth Y. W. C. A. and the Friendly Club of Concord. Since the death of Arthur Locke November 7, 1926, Mabel Locke has attended all the reunions of '90 and contributed liberally to the Alumni Fund. Two nephews survive her, Robert D. Symonds of Essex, Conn., and Richard S. Rolfe of Concord, N. H.
