Reynolds Scholarships Available to Alumni
March 1951

FOUR James B. Reynolds Foreign Scholarships will be awarded for the academic year 1951-52, it was recently announced by the Committee on Fellowships and Prizes. Established by bequest of the late James B. Reynolds '90, these scholarships make foreign study available to outstanding Dartmouth graduates. Although all alumni are eligible, preference will normally be given to recent graduates, and to members of the present senior class. The selection process follows the general pattern of the Rhodes Scholarships. Key factors in making the awards are the character and ability of the applicant, along with the soundness and social value of the proposed study program.

There are no restrictions placed on the choice of foreign country or any wellestablished educational institution specified by the applicant. In exceptional cases, men may receive Reynolds Scholarships for the purpose of undertaking independent research, or approved study programs in such fields as art or music, abroad.

Applications must be filed not later thanMarch 25, 1951. Each scholarship will be tenable for one year of foreign study and will ordinarily carry a stipend of $2,000.

Applications from alumni may take the form of a detailed statement of the proposed program of foreign study or research, together with at least three supporting letters from college or graduate school professors testifying to the character and ability of the applicant. These, together with official transcripts of college and graduate school grades and a recent photograph should be received by the Committee Chairman by the closing date. Marital status is not a consideration.
