Alumni to Ballot For Council Member
April 1951

AN ELECTION CONTEST in one of the seven Alumni Council Districts of the country will be decided by mail ballot this spring. In the Central States (District III) three nominees for a vacancy on the Alumni Council are: Philip K. Watson '19 of Detroit, Henry S. Embree '30 of Chicago, and Robert E. Cowden Jr. '32 of Dayton. In each case the candidate has been proposed by the alumni club of his home city. The vacancy is caused by the expiration June 30 of the second and final term of Robert C. Borwell '25 of Chicago.

Eight present members of the Alumni Council have been nominated for reelection to the customary term of two years, without contest, as follows: Andrew J. Oberlander '26 of Montpelier, Vt.; Nichol M. Sandoe '19 of New York City; William G. Morton '28 of Syracuse; Stephen A. Osborn '27 of St. Paul; Richard W. Walker '28 of Omaha; John M. Cunningham '18 of Denver; Murray Hawkins '19 of Los Angeles; and Robert W. Pierce '25 of Miami.

In the process of filling other vacancies on the Council coming up in June three new members have been nominated without contest for first terms of two years. These new Councillors were declared elected by Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the General Association of Alumni, when nominations closed March 10. They are, with the name of the present member whose final term on the Council is expiring this spring:

District I: Edward Winsor '24 of Providence, succeeding Charles B. Rice '23 of Hartford.

District V: Percy H. Russell Jr. '29 of Washington, D.C., succeeding Richard P. White '18, Washington.

District VI: John L. Ferguson '15 of Tulsa, succeeding George J. Winger '25 of Kansas City.

In District III where voting will determine the new member of the Alumni Council, ballots will be sent to all alumni of the College in the States of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio about the middle of April and polls will close in Hanover June 10.

STEPHEN A. OSBORN '27 of St. Paul, who will fill a new term as member of the Alumni Council.
