Douglas W. Alden majored in French at Dartmouth and took his doctorate at the Sorbonne with a thesis on Marcel Proust and hisFrench Critics. He is an assistant professor of French at Princeton. He is also the author of Introduction to French Masterpieces, and coauthor of Bibliography of Critical and Biographical References for the Study of Contemporary French Literature.
