DARTMOUTH this fall is giving scholarship help to 25% of the freshmen, among whom for the first time are twenty Daniel Webster National Scholars, and for all four classes is providing financial aid that totals $540,000. The freshman percentage and the overall total are the highest in the history of the College and represent encouraging progress in the financial aid program. This month's article on More Scholarships (beginning on Page 20) has been written by Robert L. Allen '45, Assistant Secretary of the College and editor of the quarterly From Hanover, with the aim not only of telling the current scholarship story but also of discussing the why of financial aid.
President Dickey's address opening the 185th year of the College is printed in full in this issue, beginning on Page 17. Convocation each fall is taken by the President as an occasion for talking seriously with the students about some o£ the things that are fundamentally important in their educational experience and in the national life. This year's address, dealing with maturity in the individual and in the nation, was one of his finest.

The student duck-hunters, photographed by Adrian Bouchard, are George H. CasselsSmith '55 with his Labrador "Gillie" and Chester O. Gale Jr. '55, setting out the decoys. Without our planning it so, both are sons of alumni—of George R. Cassels-Smith 25 and Chester O. Gale '19.
