The greatest Alumni Fund results ever achieved by Dartmouth men were assured on June 30, the closing date of the 1953 campaign. Although gifts mailed on or before the deadline remained to be counted, the totals on that date stood at $635,487 from 16,221 contributors with prospects bright that the 1953 Fund would go beyond $660,000 and would exceed 17,000 contributors.
This year's dollar objective was $600,000. The June 30 figures compare with the 1952 final totals of $611,531 from 16,146 contributors. Included in the 1953 total is §45,000 from 750 Dartmouth parents, 100 more than ever before.
In this year's campaign, directed for the Alumni Council by Kenneth M. Henderson '16 of Chicago, great emphasis was placed on participation and on raising a sum that, after preventing an operating deficit for the year, would provide substantial help to the College in its enlarged program of scholarship aid. To achieve those goals, some 1500 Dartmouth men worked as class agents, with Nichol M. Sandoe Jr. '45, executive secretary of the Fund, directing and coordinating their efforts from Hanover.
