The Southern California group was visited this summer by two illustrious sons, Dean Don Morrison and Sig Larmon '14, college trustee and president of Young and Rubicam. A Dean Morrison Dinner was held at Pasadena's Huntington Hotel under the personal supervision of manager Wes Hadden '40, and although the Dean gave us a vividly clear picture of Dartmouth today, the unfortunate chap was belabored by questions from the floor for the better part of two hours. The following evening he was hosted at Hollywood's Moulin Rouge (where nudity is not a crudity) by Bill Eldridge '34, Stu Durkee '33, Rudy Pacht '35, Bill Adams '34 and Bob Purvis '49. After the first show, the group crossed Sunset Boulevard to television station KTTV where Frank Danzig '37 was frantically getting his premiere production of Musical Chairs, starring Johnny Mercer, under way. All thoroughly enjoyed, and a "well-done" to Don Morrison for the splendid impression he left with us on his first swing of the alumni circuit.
Sig Larmon '14 joined us at a luncheon in the Aviation Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and was welcomed by a noon turnout of between thirty and forty members. Sig talked briefly on faculty problems, increased enrollment, need for scholarship funds and in general on long-range planning for ways and means, new buildings and faculty recruitment. Listening to him gave one an insight into the myriads of problems confronting the College administration and the work involved in solving not only current problems, but those stretching ten years into the future.
A few of those present to pay their respects to Mr. Larmon were Harry Ackerman '35, Tom Burch '23, John Lyman '28, Ken Lieber '36, Ed Ramsey '35, Jack Rourke '40, Ed Concannon '48, Mark Landsberg '49 and of course Leon Rothschild '24, who hasn't missed a gathering since the Flora Dora girls attended Winter Carnival.
In midsummer the Association sponsored a luncheon to honor all the men entering college this fall in the Class of 1958. Pete Mann '51 gave the incoming freshmen an excellent account of what to expect during their time in Hanover, and following his talk everyone enjoyed watching "My First Days at Dartmouth." As of July 2 the following young men have been accepted and plan on attending Dartmouth in the Class of 1958:
