At the risk of Mint Bag Allen already having written many paragraphs on this subject, Hanover Holiday in Manhattan was a tremendous success. By 6:15 P.M. of March 30 the Dartmouth College Club was overflowing. Perhaps the secret of getting the boys out for an evening is to invite the wives. It worked wonders for us - hardly a '37 showed up without. Outstanding was Rog Allen, who obviously had not mentioned the affair at home, spending most of his time buying drinks for everyone else's wife and taking prolific notes. The speaker was Dr. Vilhjalmur Stefansson who talked informally on the Arctic - A Strategic and Changing Frontier." This was supplemented by movies. On hand were Rog Allen, Charlie and Alia Blaisdell, Roily Bialla, Mort and Marj Berkowitz, Mack Burke, Carl and Anne Gram, Bill and Adele Leonard, Tom and Janet Nast, Carl and Ruth Ray, Norm and Virginia Robbie and Mike Wright.

The evening was enjoyed by all, even if lengthy - a group adjourned to a late spot, but had the presence of mind to add eclat to the gathering by dragging Hanover wheel George Colton '35 along with them.

A card from the Hitchcock Clinic announced the association of Dr. T. RichardWatson Jr. with the staff. Since the card was dated last October and arrived last week, could it be Dick wants to put the knife to me?

The New York Times had a column on the conflict between the Church of Christ, a Protestant American denomination, and the authorities in Rome. Al Jacks, Associated Press correspondent in Rome, was ordered to leave the neighborhood of the Church but refused and was finally allowed to stay although a fellow press photographer was bodily removed.

Hank Pierce, manager of employee relations at General Electric's Bloomfield Works, has been appointed chairman of the Bloomfield, N. J., Red Cross Chapters 1954 fund campaign. Hank also runs the Essex County Cerebral Palsy drive and is an active member of the local chamber of commerce. It's amazing to me how Roily Bialla ever missed tying on to a professional fund gatherer like this boy.

Word has just come that Hal Putnam has passed the Massachusetts Bar Exam on the first try. Hal has just spent the past three years studying law so this came as a happy climax.

We got a tip that Ernie April was awarded the degree of Master of Education by Harvard University in March.

While in San Francisco, I had a chance to talk with Art Falk and learned that he had just been appointed assistant secretary of the West Coast Life Insurance Co., was still a bachelor and usually manages to spend Christmas vacation in Miami, Fla., with his sister. How does he escape! Also called ArtHislop and Tudor Wall but unfortunately my schedule was too tight to permit our getting together and they were too modest to volunteer any tid-bits over the phone. Had a call in for John Follett who has his own business in Herlong, Calif., but couldn't reach him because the operator offered the information that he didn't get into the office usually until after 10:30 — wonder if he runs a night club.

Hank Irwin's father-in-law, Thomas C. Ham, Secretary of the Class of 1896, wrote a very newsy letter of Hank's recent transfer from Edinburgh, Scotland, to La Paz, Bolivia, where he will be Country Public Affairs officer and special assistant to the Ambassador. He has been in government service for nearly ten years, first with Army Intelligence in Washington and since with the State Department. Hank, his wife and three children aged 12, 9 and 5, had a full family reunion in April with Dr. George C. Ham '34, Dr. Thomas H. Ham '27 and their wives and children. It must have been quite a treat for Thomas C. Ham '96 to have his three children and in-laws and nine grandchildren altogether at one time.

Ike Collins, Les Bratton and the CharlieBlaisdells were caught weekending at the Hanover Inn during February. Blaisdell looks like he could use a little exercise on Balch Hill.
