With Big Green Teams
October 1955

AFTER two brief and placid summer months the campus began to come to life with the September I arrival of 75 varsity football candidates. By midSeptember some 650 freshmen were added to the Hanover scene, along with 35 soccer candidates and twenty cross-country runners. All. three varsity fall teams were hard at it with twice-a-day sessions scheduled until College opened on September 21, at which time the freshman teams began workouts.

It has been a quiet summer on the athletic front with only the golf course and tennis courts showing activity. However, a great amount of work was done at Alumni Gymnasium, resulting in remodeled offices in Davis Field House for the football coaching staff, an office off the gymnasium lobby for Tuss McLaughry, Dartmouth's new Director of Physical Education, new lockers and facilities for all students in the gymnasium basement, and a fresh brick facade on the front of the gymnasium. For the first time in several years Memorial Field remained untouched and in good shape for the coming fall months.

All seems in readiness for Dartmouth's Diamond Jubilee (75th) Year of football, so without further ado let's take a close look at what Coach Bob Blackman and his assistants - line coach Jack Musick, backfield coach Will Volz, end coach Elmer Lampe, freshman coach Earl Hamilton and assistant coaches Doggie Julian and Ray Truncellito - have wrought.
